Kriti Sanon opens up on how Bollywood wanted her to look like “a plastic doll”
It is no revelation that the showbiz industry is heavily responsible for defining beauty standards, but it is a shock that such bully mindsets prevail even in today’s age and time. Bollywood actor Kriti Sanon recently opened up about being body-shamed and criticised for her appearance in the industry.
In an interview with Bollywood Bubble, the 31-year-old actor shared that she often faced harsh criticism for her physical appearance, in particular, making her insecure about her nose, gummy smile, and lips. However, Kriti tackled it with grace, resilience and self-love.
During shoots, she was told to line her lips to make them look fuller. She shared that she caved into the pressure but laughed it off saying “it didn’t make sense” after she tried it once.
Calling out set beauty standards that initiate such criticism, she said she is not “a plastic doll.” The Mimi star shed more light on the subject and shared, “I was also told that my nostrils flare up a little bit when I smile. So, yes there will be criticism from everywhere. When I smile or laugh, sometimes they do but that’s normal. I am not a plastic doll.”
Owning her appearance, she always had responses ready to shut down haters. “People told me ‘You have gummy smile’. I am born with it, I can’t do anything about it. These little things people don’t expect you to change but would still point out,” she revealed.
Sharing how the times are only getting worse with Instagram filters and editing apps “beautifying” pictures, Kriti asserted, “Someone was telling me now it’s not the same pressure, but I think the pressure is increasing with all these Instagram filters and everything coming, everyone wants to be perfect all the time. I have gone through that, I have heard things and my advice would be to make sure that you are not listening to just everybody.
