As we continue into yet another year of the pandemic, the current climate is constantly changing and we saw the rise and downfall of a number of make-up trends in 2021. While there was much nostalgia around some looks that were created by make-up artists, there were also some new trends which we will continue to see in 2022. From metallic eyelids, to glossy lips, to geometric eyeliner and soap brows, make-up became rather experimental this past year. And now, we believe there is a movement towards healthier, glowing skin with minimal make-up on the skin. We rounded up some trends which we think will make it big in 2022.
Skincare Minimalism
We’ve constantly been told about the numerous products we need in order to keep our skin looking youthful and glowing. From the AHA’s to the BHA’s the facial treatments and the 10-step skincare routine; it was all a little too much to fathom. In 2022 however, beauty experts are predicting that these routines will now be watered down a little which will in turn reduce the pressure on us to buy so many products. While having a variety of skincare products can be fun, the average person needs very few items to have healthy skin.
Barely There Foundation
For us, having a face full of foundation never quite cut it. And this year’s trend is all about minimal concealer and foundation. This year, it’s time to leave behind the thick, cakey foundation and instead opt for either a tinted moisturiser or a lightweight foundation which has the appearance of you not wearing any at all. Fenty Beauty’s Eaze Drop Blurring Skin Tint and Armani’s Lumionous Silk Foundation are two formulas that are in our vanity cases already.
Statement Cheeks
While blush has long been used to add some flush and colour to your face, it is now going to become a more experimental step in our make-up routines. Blush will soon be the favourite step in your make-up routine as you play with different shades and brighter hues. Blush will no longer be restricted to the apples of the cheeks, but will also be applied across the nose, forehead and high points of the face.
Bright Pink Lipstick
You can never go wrong with a pink lippy and pops of pink are predicted to reign supreme in the new year. We know it’s still winter and the beginning of the year, but we’re already looking forward to spring and summer so we can try all the shades of pink! Shades of blush pink to rose pink, fuschia and magenta are just some of the pinks you can experiment with this summer.
A Pop of Glitter
While glitter takes us back to the 90’s, this truly is a throwback trend that is going to make a comeback this year. Glitter is really going to have a moment in 2022 and we’ve already seen it on the runways of a number of brands showcasing their collections. There’s a variety of glitter sticks and palettes that will help you get the look. You can go the extra mile by adding glitter to your highlighter or use a subtle layer over your eyeshadow for that extra sparkle. Perfect for the festive season and for those winter night’s out.
