SC gives Defence Ministry two weeks to file reply

The Supreme Court granted two weeks’ time to the Defence Ministry to file reply to the appeal of former army officers against court martial.

A three-member special bench headed by Justice Umar Ata Bandial heard the petitions. During the hearing, the additional attorney general requested for more time for submission of reply. The court granted two weeks’ time for filing the reply.

Former colonels, Inayatullah Khan and Azad Minhas were convicted for trying to overthrow the then government of Benazir Bhutto in 1995. During Tuesday’s hearing Minhas requested the court to fix a date.

He added that they had been seeking justice for the past 26 years.

Justice Bandial said that the Supreme Court had directed for fixing the case for an early hearing. Justice Bandial further said that the court would listen to the petitioners.
