The suspect who allegedly killed a youth over resistance during a robbery in front of his mother and sister on January 12 near KMC Sports Complex on Kashmir Road shot himself dead upon seeing the police.
In this regard, SSP Special Investigation Unit, Arif Aziz said that during the investigation of the murder of Shahrukh, the police had received information from undercover sources that a person named Farzand Ali Jafari aka police officer, involved in the incident and the police were looking for him, was present near a private hospital in Gulshan-e-Iqbal.
As soon as the police party reached the spot, the accused saw the police and shot himself dead.
The SSP said that further investigation is being carried out in this regard while the weapon of the accused has been seized by the police.
It may be noted that the victim Shahrukh was married three days ago. On the day of the incident, his mother and sister reached home in a rickshaw and a robber on a motorcycle tried to snatch gold bangles from them. Meanwhile, Shahrukh's mother rang the doorbell. As soon as Shahrukh came out of the house, the accused opened fired, killing Shahrukh on the spot.
Sources said that the alleged accused, who committed suicide, has been arrested before. He is said to be posted in the Investigation Police.
Accomplice arrested
The Special Investigation Unit (SIU) Police have arrested the accomplice of the suspect who allegedly killed a youth, Shahrukh, on Kashmir Road in Ferozeabad police station remits.
SIU officials disclosed that they have arrested a suspect identified Imran, who, according to them, was also involved in the murder of Shahrukh.
The youth was slain in front of his mother and sister at their doorstep three days after his marriage. SIU officials said they traced Imran with the help of footage stored in CCTV cameras at a petrol pump near the scene.
Farzand Ali Jafari, the main accused in the murder case, has already committed suicide in the parking lot of a private hospital near Madina Hotel in Block-7 of Gulshan-e-Iqbal, on Monday night as the SIU police party approached him for his arrest.
Police said Farzand was alone when he tried to snatch cash and valuables from Shahrukh’s mother, and shot the young man when he intervened. However, CCTV footage from a nearby filling station showed Farzand dropping off Imran and then riding ahead to commit the crime. Meanwhile, CCTV video of accused policeman Farzand Ali Jafari before his suicide also came to light in which it can be seen that the accused first pointed his pistol at the SIU personnel who came for his arrest and later ran away at a distance and shot himself.
