Farmers Market to reopen today
The Islamabad Farmers Market, a renowned marketplace for vendors dealing in organic eggs, vegetables and other edibles, will resume operations from Saturday (today) after a brief hiatus.
The exclusive market, which is usually set up at Hotel Margala in the federal capital and was closed for December and New Year holidays, attracts a significant number of locals as well as foreigners from the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad.
The weekly bazaar is famous for its specific criteria while selecting vendors to market their produce, with the Saturday-only venture opening at 10:30am and concluding at 2:30pm.
More than 24 business owners belonging to the twin cities and adjacent villages will be offering a variety of healthy food items in the farmers’ market; with organisers ensuring that Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) are strictly followed.
“On average, I sell around 30-35 products including chicken, eggs, sandwiches, pesto sauce and fresh fruits and vegetables,” said Mehryar Ali Khan, a regular seller and founder of Desipoultry.com. “For each vendor, this amount varies depending upon the types of products offered.”
A customer with Belgian origins commented that while prices of the products may be on the higher side, the quality offsets the difference in rates found in regular shops.
"It is important to support people who produce good quality organic food to promote healthy and natural food culture," he remarked.
