Keanu set for TV debut with Leonardo DiCaprio, Martin Scorsese production

The ‘Matrix’ star is in talks to star in Hulu’s adaptation of ‘The Devil in the White City’

Hollywood A-lister Keanu Reeves is in negotiations to star in Hulu’s adaptation series of The Devil In The White City, a big budget-take on Erik Larson’s 2003 book. According to Deadline, the Matrix star will reportedly walk to the World’s Fair in 1893, produced and directed by Leonardo DiCaprio and Martin Scorsese.

Reeves’ signing this project will mark his first major US television role. The non-fiction historical series follows the true story of two men - an architect and a serial killer - whose fates were forever linked by the Chicago World’s Fair of 1893. The storyline depicts Daniel H Burnham as a brilliant and meticulous architect, racing to make his mark on the world and Henry H Holmes, a shrewd doctor ruling his own pharmaceutical “Murder Castle” on fairgrounds – a palace built to seduce, torture and maim young women.

The Devil In The White City aims to take the viewer on a tour of murder, romance and mystery in the gilded age.

Casting Reeves will mark a significant step towards the progress of the adaptation which has been in various stages of development for over a decade when DiCaprio bought the film rights to the book set it up as a feature at Paramount with Scorsese to direct.

In 2019, the streaming giant Hulu revealed the development of The Devil In The White City as a big-budget series with DiCaprio and Scorsese as executive producers alongside Rick Yorn, Sam Shaw, Jennifer Davisson and Stacey Sher. For now, Todd Field will be directing the first two episodes of the limited series while Paramount TV Studios is producing the show alongside ABC Signature and Appian Way.

However, according to reports by the publication, until last year the Castle Rock creator Sam Shaw was also working on the adaptation.

On the work front, Reeves’ latest offering The Matrix Resurrections was released at the end of last year. He will next star in John Wick: Chapter 4, which is due for release in 2023 alongside voicing a character in the DC League of Super-Pets.
