The Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Police on Monday foiled a bid to smuggle weapons from Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) to AJK, a spokesperson said.
The smugglers were arrested along with heavy weapons at Dhan Gali check-post in Tehsil Dadyal of Mirpur.
The official said that the police on a special tip-off intercepted a car bearing a K-P licence plate. He added that the police searched the vehicle and recovered around 44 rifles and pistols of different bores along with 11,000 bullets.
The police arrested two suspects on the spot who were identified as Abidullah and Saeedullah, both hailing from K-P.
The AJK Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr Sohail Habib Tajik hailed the quick action of the Dadyal police team led by Station House Officer Amar Dar and announced appreciation letters as well as cash rewards for the whole team.
