Education ministry to issue hiring criteria for Quran teachers
The federal ministry of education is expected to issue guidelines and criteria for the recruitment of teachers for the teaching of the Holy Quran as a compulsory subject.
The cabinet also gave in-principle approval to the draft for the Inter-board Coordination Commission Act 2021 to ensure a uniform standard of education across all educational boards.
The development came after Federal Minister for Information Fawad Chaudhry during a cabinet meeting proposed that in the light of the directions of the Lahore High Court, the education ministry should issue guidelines for the appointment of teachers.
The minister proposed that all provinces should follow the instructions of the education ministry.
In addition, the federal cabinet also drafted an act to replace the Inter-Board Committee of Chairmen (IBCC) of the Ministry of Education and Training and set up an inter-board coordination commission.
According to the draft, a commission should be established to make IBCC an independent body.
It was decided that in the light of the 18th Amendment, an institution should be set up at the federal level for effective liaison in the examination system and assessment in boards across the country.
A commission will also be formed at the federal level for coordination over the national curriculum and scheme of study. In order to take recommendations from boards across the country, the government will seek the formation of an inter-board coordination commission.
