Keanu Reeves reportedly gave 70% of his ‘Matrix’ earnings to cancer research

The actor has been known to donate regularly to cancer charities

Keanu Reeves continues to give fans a reason to love him, with a recent report stating that the actor donated a massive chunk of his earnings from the original Matrix film to cancer resreach. 

According to the report, the actor, who plays Neo in the Matrix franchise, most recently starring in its latest film The Matrix Resurrections, was paid $10 million before the first film’s release and $35 million after, with Reeves quietly donating 70% of his total earnings (which make up about $31.5 million) to leukaemia research. Reeves has a personal connection to the cause, with his sister Kim having battled the disease for a decade. She was diagnosed in 1991 and went into remission in 2001.  The actor also went on to set up a non-profit foundation that aids children’s hospitals and cancer research, all without any fanfare. 

In 2020, a US-based children's cancer charity just got a boost of star power courtesy of Reeves, who offered a ‘virtual date’ (a 15-minute Zoom call) to the highest bidder in a nearly 50-lot auction for Camp Rainbow Gold, reported The Hollywood Reporter.

Fans have also applauded the Hollywood star for his hands-off approach with female fans in many photos that went viral online.

While not groping someone is just about the bare minimum for decent behaviour, Twitter users circulated pictures of the John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum star in respectful poses with fans and co-stars, reported Huff Post. In the images, Reeves keeps his hands 'hovering' near the female fans or in his pockets, avoiding potentially awkward skin contact.
