Aerial firing on the rise
Incidents of aerial firing began to gain momentum throughout the city. On the night between Saturday and Sunday, a stray bullet fired from an unknown direction hit the car of Dr Seemi Jamali, former director of Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC), which was parked outside her house in JPMC Colony.
When contacted, she said that on the night between Saturday and Sunday at about 2.30am, her watchman informed her that he was sitting outside when he heard a sound of gunfire and saw a bullet ripped through the shed above the vehicle and damaged the vehicle parked underneath.
The watchman, who was sitting on a chair nearby, miraculously survived the incident.
Dr Jamali said she immediately informed the police about the incident and a heavy contingent of the police reached the spot and examined the situation and gathered evidence. She said that the incidents of aerial firing were gaining momentum throughout the city.
"During my days in service, we regularly received dozens of people hit by stray bullets around New Year," she said. She drew the attention of the higher authorities to the trend, demanding the high officials of the police that concrete steps should be taken to prevent the incidents of aerial firing.
