KARACHI: Following Main Tera and Tu, Azaan Sami Khan has released the music video for Ik Lamha as part of his debut album.
Starring Maya Ali, the video is a ‘period piece’ set in 1964 Karachi, following a “tale of a love that got away,” as stated by a press release. From horse carts to vintage cars to old school theatres, the video sees Sami sporting a tuxedo with Maya carrying the quintessential 60s hairdo and dramatic eye makeup to pair with her heavy mustard outfit.
The latter’s character gears up to meet Sami’s for the last time before tying the knot with someone else. It shows flashbacks of their time together, prompting viewers to develop an emotional connection to their bond. Ending on a shattering note, the video leaves one in a state of wonderment.
While its wardrobe, direction and visual effects are commendable, the song itself is all over the place. Penned by award-winning lyricist, AM Turaz, who has previously worked with Sami in Ghalat Fehmi, its writing isn’t the problem.
With Qawwali layered over a trap styled beat and Sami singing in between, the song is trying to be three different things at once with neither complimenting the other. Perhaps the production is lacking in certain areas too but the composition is subpar.
Sami’s debut album features 9 brand new songs, namely Maahiya, Dholna, Mein Tera, Jaadugari, Aashiqui, Ik Lamha, Meri Sajna Re feat. Ustaad Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, Zama, and Tu. Ik Lamha has been directed by Ehtashamuddin, who has previously worked with Sami in Superstar and Main Tera.
