Capital to have another underpass
The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has envisaged another underpass for the federal capital to make the Kashmir Highway (Srinagar Highway) signal-free.
The new underpass will be constructed in front of the Serena hotel on the Kashmir Highway.
According to officials, proposals have been sought from the CDA's Planning and Development Department for the underpass project.
A CDA official said that after the completion of an underpass and an overhead bridge on Seventh Avenue and Kashmir Highway, the traffic from the airport and Rawalpindi is expected to increase in the capital. He said that the new underpass has been proposed for uninterrupted traffic flow on the Kashmir Highway.
He said that after the construction of the underpass, traffic going to Murree and Chak Shahzad will be free of signals
He said that in the first phase, suggestions will be sought from the Islamabad Traffic Police and traders before preparing the project concept (PC-I) of the project. After consultation with stakeholders, the PC-I will be sent to the engineering branch of the CDA for approval, he said.
According to a senior official of the CDA's engineering branch, underpasses in front of Aabpara and the Serena hotel are included in the Islamabad master plan.
