A woman was left seriously burnt when her husband attacked her with acid in Dera Ismail Khan district of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) on Friday.

Her one-year-old infant son was also injured in the attack.

The complainant Farzana, wife of Adnan, lodged an FIR with Cantt police, stating that she was sleeping at her room with her infant son when she sensed sudden pain.

“I was fast asleep when I sensed sudden pain and woke up crying. I saw my whole body had been burnt along with my son’s one leg and saw my husband Adnan who was running away from the room,” she stated in the FIR.

The unfortunate woman informed police that she and her husband had a domestic dispute and that is why he attacked her with acid with the help of two others. She blamed that after the attack her husband kept her inside the house so she was unable to lodge an FIR against him.

She lodged an FIR against her husband Adnan, Numan and another man.

Police registered an FIR in the case and opened investigation.

It is worth mentioning here that acid attacks have increased in number in recent years across Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) without inviting much attention.

On June 29 this year a girl was left seriously injured when attacked with acid inside her house in Kohat Cantonment. She later succumbed to her injuries in the hospital in Peshawar. Police registered an FIR in the case but it led to nowhere because the victim was unable to speak after the attack.

Right activist Taimur Kamal told The Express Tribune that acid attacks are taking place despite the legislation by the provincial assembly which is unfortunate.

He said that police often fail to arrest the culprits involved in such attacks and because of it acid attack have been on the rise in the society.
