Local govt representative hit by bullet during celebratory gunfire

RAWALPINDI:

A union council vice-chairman, who was shot and injured during an aerial firing at a wedding party in Pirwadhai, succumbed to injuries in hospital on Wednesday.

Union Council-9 Pirwadhai Vice-Chairman Muhammad Naeem Khan had sustained bullet injuries during a wedding in Zia-ul-Haq Colony at the Pirwadhai Police Station jurisdiction.

The victim was taken to the hospital where he died during treatment.

Police said that the incident occurred between the night of Tuesday and Wednesday at the wedding of one, Zahoor Ghani.

Mohammad Naeem Khan, who was participating in the wedding, was hit by a bullet during the celebratory firing and was seriously injured.

The injured were rushed to Holy Family Hospital, where he succumbed to the injuries.

Police registered a case against bridegroom Zahoor Ghani on the complaint of Assistant Sub-Inspector Muhammad Zeeshan under section 302.

Despite the heavy firing at the wedding, the Pirwadhai police failed to intervene and stop it which continued for several minutes.

According to locals, Muhammad Naeem Khan left behind five children. He recently quit the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz and joined the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf.

On the other hand, a police spokesman said that CPO Sajid Kayani suspended Pirwadhai Police Station House Officer Owais Akram for failing to take action against those involved in making the aerial firing.
