Labourer killed at stone crushing plant

Locals and other labourers reached the site and recovered the trapped persons under the debris

HARIPUR:

A labourer was killed while several others were injured during the blasting for the stone crushing plant at village Khui Miara Khanpur.

The incident took place when the labourer Yousuf Gul, a resident of district Buner, was planting an explosive for the stone crushing plant when suddenly TNT exploded and heavy boulders fell over the labourers where many men were buried under the debris.

Locals and other labourers reached the site and recovered the trapped persons under the debris and the body of Yousuf Gul. The body of the labourer was shifted to the hospital and later handed over to the family.

Despite orders of the Supreme Court, several crushing plants are still operating in Khanpur. Sources said this was the second incident that took place in two months. Similarly, a trailer driver died in an accident while working at Tarbela 5th Extension Project on Wednesday. Sources said accidents occur because a foreign construction company has been using old machinery for a long time.

On Tuesday, a trailer fell from Tarbela Main Dam, killing the driver named Shafarish on the spot.

According to the sources, the condition of dumpers, trailers, and trucks was not satisfactory which is why they lead to accidents.

The body was shifted to a nearby hospital after completing legal formalities.

Meanwhile, a man died while two others suffered injuries in a road accident in Khanpur.
