Sweeping changes expected in Jhelum local govt system

The number of local government representatives in the city will be 71

JEHLUM:

The new local government system of Jhelum following the upcoming elections is expected to witness sweeping changes.

Credible sources have said that as per the draft of the new Local Government Act 2021, the number of local government representatives in the city would be 71, including those elected from the reserved seats for women, youth, the elderly and members from the business community.

The elected representatives for the city having a population of nearly 10 million will be headed by a mayor and have two reserved seats for members of the minority, 10 reserved seats for women, eight reserved seats for workers, two for elders, three for youth and 45 general councillors. There will be 64 municipal representatives and 11 metropolitan corporations.
