Stench makes people realise neighbour died three days ago in Karachi

Police officials say they will investigate if it was actually a case of suicide or someone strangled the victim

KARACHI:

A substance abuse victim, abandoned by his family, allegedly committed suicide at his home in the Baldia Town area within the remits of Mochko Police Station.

Mochko police officials said they will investigate if it was actually a case of suicide, or someone strangled the victim and then hanged the body.

People discovered that Asif Dad Baloch, 30, has died only when a foul smell gripped the neighbourhood.

The disgruntled man had allegedly ended his life three days ago, but no one realised it, till the stench became unbearable, and the neighbours called 15 police helpline.

Police came with rescue workers to remove the remains of Asif, which by early hours of Thursday, had entered the rigorous-mortis state.

Police found the body hanging with the hook of a ceiling fan with a rope around its neck. The body of the deceased was taken into custody and shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital by ambulance.

Mochko police, quoting neighbours said, Asif Baloch was addicted to opium which led to his wife and children leaving home three months ago. Police have kept the body in the morgue and were looking for his heirs. The heirs of the deceased were being sought and investigating was underway whether the incident was a murder or a suicide.
