Six UCs to have tube wells, water tanks

Project to cost Rs630 million

RAWALPINDI:

A project to install seven new tube-wells and build two large water tanks under the local government system has been approved, with the installations expected to permanently solve water crisis in six densely populated union councils in the limits of the Metropolitan Municipal Corporation.

The estimated cost of the new tube-wells is Rs600 million, while the water tanks will cost Rs30 million and work on these two projects will start in January.

Moreover, installation of 30 tube-wells in 28 union councils of the Metropolitan Municipal Corporation has also started. This project will be completed by February 28 at a cost of Rs250 million.

Installation of the seven new tube-wells will be completed by March 31, while water supply to all union councils from all 37 tube-wells will begin before April 30.

Funds for these water supply projects have been provided by Federal Minister Sheikh Rasheed Ahmad and Federal Parliamentary Secretary Sheikh Rashid Shafiq from their respective MNA development funds.

Shafiq said that under the new local government system, the densely populated and old union councils of Shakrial East, West, Gangal, Chaklala, Dhok Munshi, Rehmatabad, and settlements adjacent to the airport housing societies are being brought into urban limits.
