SSGC to suspend gas supply to non-export industries
The Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) has shared plans to suspend gas supply to all non-export oriented industries from December 11, 2021.
“In adherence to the Ministry of Energy’s (Petroleum Division) gas load management plan, it has been decided to suspend gas supply to all non-export general industries from December 11, 2021, till further orders,” SSGC stated in a notification on Friday.
It added that the gas load management plan placed domestic and commercial customers on top of the sectoral priority list.
The decision to suspend gas supply to this sector has been taken in order make gas available to the domestic and commercial sectors during the current winter season, it said.
The company remarked that the commodity was witnessing a major demand-supply gap due to extraordinary spike in fulfilling water and space heating needs in areas of upper Sindh and Balochistan which are already experiencing chilly winter season.
Earlier, the government suspended gas supply to compressed natural gas (CNG) sector till February 15, 2022 due to the spike in gas demand in the winter season, it said.
On the other hand, delivery of gas to all captive power plants of non-export industrial units has been halted till further orders.
“However, the export industry and its captive power plants and the fertiliser sector will continue to receive the supply of gas,” SSGC highlighted.
It may be noted here that in Balochistan, supply of additional gas is a must for the survival of humans since the commodity serves as a lifeline to a huge chunk of population that keeps itself warm through water and space heating gas appliances amid extremely low temperatures.
SSGC hoped that the non-export oriented industries would understand the gravity of the situation and expected cooperation from the sector in a bid to serve the domestic customers through uninterrupted gas supplies.
