Minorities enjoy equal rights in society, says commissioner Karachi

Says they have easy access to education, employment without any discrimination

KARACHI:

Karachi commissioner Muhammad Iqbal Memon has said that all minorities in the country have equal rights and they are provided equal opportunities to get education and employment, and to enjoy full participation in public life.

He was speaking at a meeting held at his office with the organising committee of Interfaith Peace Rally led by Senator Anwar Lal Dean.

Other members of the committee who attended the meeting included Pastor Suleman Manzoor, Advocate Younus S Khan, Pervaiz Gill, Pastor Shahbaz Bhatti and Pastor Amjad Farooq .

The delegation briefed the commissioner about the progrmme about Christmas Interfaith Peace Rally which will be organised on behalf of all the churches of the city on December 18.

The commissioner assured the delegation that city administration would provide all possible assistance and facilities for organsing the rally. He hoped that the rally would promote peace, love and brotherhood among the people.

Commissioner was informed that the Rally would be inaugurated by the Cardinal Joseph Coutts at 4pm on December 18 at Gora Qabrastan (Christian cemetery).

The rally will go via Sharahe Faisal to Karachi Press Club then to Sea view where it will be terminated. Participants will ride big trucks. donkey and camel carts etc, playing Christmas carols. People would be dressed in Santa Claus suits. Muslim organisations would also be invited to participate in the rally.

The Cardinal will offer prayers for the progress, prosperity and solidarity of the country at the inaugural ceremony.
