Minister calls for promoting science, technology education

Says govt working to provide quality, skill-based education to all

RAWALPINDI:

Minister for Higher Education Raja Yassir Humayun Sarfraz has said the contemporary age demands education based on science and technology, but we must add the blend of socio-cultural aspects while imparting knowledge that evokes respect for one's culture, geography, history, and national heritage.

He was speaking at the Pir Mehr Ali Shah-Arid Agriculture University Rawalpindi (PMAS-AAUR) convocation on Wednesday.

"The government is working hard to provide quality and skill-based education to all," he said.

The minister said that the incumbent government was utilising all available resources to promote quality higher education. "International ranking of the universities in Punjab has seen a remarkable improvement during the last three years when we joined only six universities in Punjab were ranked now this year, we have around 15 and this number is increasing every year," he said.

PMAS-AAUR Vice Chancellor Dr Qamaruz Zaman said that Arid Agriculture University made substantial efforts to improve academic and research activities along with enhancement of financial resources.

Degrees awarded

The university awarded degrees to 4,439 students of undergraduates, graduates, M. Phil and Ph.D scholars at its 22nd convocation organised for the outgoing batch of 2020.

During the ceremony, 37 students received PhD degrees, 1,893 were awarded M.Phil and masters degrees, while 2,509 students got undergraduate degrees in their respective disciplines. Around 38 students were awarded gold medals for their outstanding performance in their academic record while 22 bagged silver and 18 secured bronze medals.
