I, like all mothers, deserve a chance to celebrate: Maryam Nawaz
Over the weekend, several videos and pictures of the ongoing wedding festivities of Junaid Safdar and Ayesha Saif Khan surfaced on social media. The Sharif family has been busy celebrating the wedding nuptials of Maryam Nawaz Sharif's son as the PML-N Vice President hosted a qawwali night.
Videos of Hamza Shehbaz and Maryam crooning to several Bollywood songs have gone viral on social media.
"My son’s wedding is a private, family affair," Maryam tweeted. She went on to add, "I, like all mothers, deserve a chance to celebrate the occasion without attracting political commentary." The PML-N leader also asked for the privacy of her family. "I humbly request media and everyone else to respect the family’s right to privacy."
Previously, Federal Minister for information and Broadcasting Fawad Chaudhry congratulated Maryam during a press conference in Islamabad.
"I would like to appreciate Hamza (Shehbaz) and Maryam (Nawaz)," he told the reporters. "The thing is whenever there are family functions, people sing and celebrate. There was a family function and it was very nice of them to [enjoy] it. That's how normal Pakistan is. What is there to object? It's perfectly okay."
He then shared, "We only have political differences with them [Maryam and Hamza]. We wish them the best in their private matters. Our only objection is to not spend our money on these [lavish] weddings."
