Court summons revenue board officers; hears plea against workshop on KDA land

As the misdeeds of Sindh Revenue Board continue to baffle the law abiding citizens, a petitioner told the top court of the province that some officers of the board have sold out piece of a road as plots.

The Sindh High Court (SHC) has sought a comprehensive reply by December 22 from the Board of Revenue, Karachi commissioner and others on a petition filed against the allotment of plots on 65-feet road in Bhittai Colony.

The petitioner's counsel contended that there is a 65-feet road in Korangi Creek Block-D Bhittai Colony. The unscrupulous elements in the Sindh Revenue Board have carved out eight plots on a stretch of the said road and sold these to people.

The buyers do not know that they have been sold a piece of public thoroughfare, he said. Years will pass by, the government will wake up to check the map and then go on to bulldoze the homes of these people, he said.

The Sindh High Court, in a case of construction of portions in North Nazimabad Block-5, made an important observation regarding illegal constructions.

Justice Faisal Kamal Alam remarked: "we do not want to make people homeless. If an illegally constructed building can be regularised, we will issue order to regularise it."

However, an entirely illegal building will definitely be torn down, he said, telling the petitioner's counsel to understand the situation.

Workshop on KDA land

Meanwhile, an SHC bench sought a comprehensive reply from the Karachi Development Authority (KDA) till January 13 on a petition regarding an automobile workshop running on KDA land in North Nazimabad Block-F.

A bench comprising Justice Zafar Ahmad Rajput and Justice Muhammad Faisal Kamal Alam heard the petition.

Petitioner's counsel contended that Plot SB 313 is KDA's land, but an automobile workshop was operating on it.

The court questioned the KDA lawyer as to whose land is this. KDA lawyer was unable to answer and sought respite.

The court told the KDA counsel that it was a matter of illegal occupation and sought a comprehensive reply by January 13.
