Underpass for ‘double-decker buses’ approved

Work on Rs3.60 billion road project will begin in January

The Punjab government has given final approval for the double-decker style underpass project at Kutchery Chowk.

Construction work on the project will start in January next year while it will help in the smooth follow of traffic at Kutchery Chowk.

The project will cost Rs3.60 billion having a length of one kilometre and covering five roads.

Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) Chairman Tariq Murtaza confirmed that Kutchery Chowk was one of the busiest junctions of Rawalpindi and a pathway of VVIP movement.

The official said the underpass will be constructed for double-decker buses, and for this purpose, deep digging will be undertaken.

He said that a double-lane underpass will connect Kutchery Chowk with Mall Road, Jhelum Road, Rashid Minhas Road, and Adyala Road.

The RDA chairman said that the foundation of the project will be laid in the first week of January next year.

The official added that both the underpass will be lightened up along with the installation of LED screens for advertisement.

Murtaza said the culture of the Punjab and Potohar region will be projected around the underpasses.

He said that around 30,000 saplings of shady and flowering trees will also be planted and benches will be installed in the surrounding green area for families.
