KARACHI:

Shifaam, Pakistan's leading online healthcare platform, has introduced country's first and only childhood epilepsy helpline. The platform was inaugurated by President Arif Alvi at Aiwan e Sadr in Islamabad in October.

Information on epilepsy in Pakistan is inadequate, and the occurrence of incidents is highly under-reported as the disease is associated with substantial social stigma. Affected children suffer severe mortality in low and middle-income countries such as Pakistan. According to recent research, statistics show that 5 of every 1,000 children fall victim of epilepsy annually.

To guarantee that children receive help irrespective of where they live, Shifaam, engineered to combine all necessary facilities in a single and comprehensive solution, has established a helpline to provide necessary information about the management of these children and available resources.

CEO Shifaam, Laila Jatoi is leading the team along with the Paediatric Neurologist, Dr Raman Kumar as a trainer. The team comprises six medical students from Liaquat National Hospital and Shifaam's information specialists and trained operational staff.

The helpline will answer calls 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, in Pakistan's national language.
