Punjab govt appeal on ISM fixed for initial hearing

The Supreme Court has fixed the Punjab government’s appeal against Ittefaq Sugar Mills (ISM) for an initial hearing and issued notices to the parties concerned.

A three-member bench of the apex court led by Justice Umar Ata Bandial heard the case.

Punjab's additional advocate general adopted the stance that the top court in 2018 had ordered the shifting of ISM back to Pak Pattan from Channi Goth.

He said the ISM, later, approached the high court after which the court directed the Punjab government to review the ISM request.

The Punjab additional advocate general maintained that the apex court’s verdict regarding the operationalisation of the ISM had been misinterpreted.

The top court after hearing arguments issued notices to ISM, JDW Sugar Mills, and Hamza Sugar Mills.
