ISLAMABAD:

The special investigation team of Islamabad police have solved the mystery of a blind murder case involving the body of an 11-year-old girl found at the Metro Bus Station in Sector G-11, arresting the deceased’s father after he confessed to the crime.

Formed by Inspector General of Police (IGP) Islamabad Qazi Jamilur Rehman, the team comprised Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Operations Afzaal Ahmed Kausar, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Operations Syed Ali Akbar and SSP Investigation Attaur Rehman.

DIG Kausar addressed a press conference on Tuesday and disclosed that Wajid Hussain had murdered his daughter and dumped her body in a washroom at the Metro Bus Station in G-11.

He said the police had recovered the body and shifted it to the hospital for post-mortem, in which it was revealed that the girl was sexually assaulted before being killed.

A case under sections 302/376 of Pakistan Penal Code was lodged with Police Station Ramna, he said, adding that the special investigation team had inspected the crime scene and cordoned off the area.

The DIG said that the National Forensic Science Agency experts were also been called by the investigators, who conducted geo-fencing and collected all the evidence including photography, fingerprints and CCTV footage from the city’s Safe City Project.

He further said that the police were unaware of the girl’s identity and a test was also carried out to ascertain her age. Photographs were shared with the media with an appeal to the public to inform police about any clues that may help them find the parents of the girl.

“During the initial investigation, it was suggested that some close relative of the girl could be involved in the heinous crime,” revealed the DIG.

Once the identity of the parents was established, the investigators declared the father a suspect and took him into custody, where he confessed to the murder.

He said the alleged murderer also guided the police to the place where he had ended the life of his daughter.

The official added that police had collected all solid evidence that would be produced before the court to ensure that the culprit was accorded just punishment as per law.
