ISLAMABAD:

Pakistan has plenty of natural resources with good prospects of better economic growth and Vietnam wants to boost the bilateral trade ties, said Vietnam Ambassador Nguyen Tien Phong.

Interacting with business community at the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) on Saturday, the envoy underlined that both countries had great potential to complement each other’s economy by developing close cooperation.

He pointed out that Pakistan was producing some good-quality products including pharmaceuticals, surgical instruments and onyx, adding it had a great opportunity to enhance export of competitive products to Vietnam.

Highlighting Vietnam’s annual imports of around $300 billion, the envoy emphasised that Pakistani entrepreneurs should make efforts to get a bigger share in the Vietnamese market.

He revealed that both sides were discussing a preferential trade agreement, which would improve trade volumes between the two countries.

Vietnam could export hybrid vehicles to Pakistan, he said and suggested that both countries should sign an investment agreement to attract investors. He highlighted that close cooperation between the two sides would help Pakistan to get access to the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) as Vietnam was a member of the bloc.

He assured businessmen that his embassy would facilitate them in developing linkages with their Vietnamese counterparts.
