UO students to be known as Okavians

'Graduates of UO deserve to have title that could be used for their identification across the globe'

LAHORE:

A committee of senior administrative staff and faculty members of the University of Okara, headed by syndicate member Mazhar Hussain Sahi, formally approved the word ‘Okavians’ as a title for the students and alumni of the institution.

The committee also approved the flag and the name for the university’s magazine.

University of Okara Vice Chancellor Prof Muhammad Zakria Zakar applauded the efforts of Mazhar Sahi and said that it was an historic moment for the university to carve out its identity that was to last for centuries to come.

The committee’s secretary Waqar Ahmed Sheikh said that the Okara district had a proud history and the graduates of the UO deserved to have a title that could be used for their identification across the globe.

A spokesperson for the university said that the newly approved flag of the institution would be hoisted at all entry points and buildings of the campus and be used as watermark on all the official documents.
