Hazara division gets first thalassemia centre

Medicines worth millions of rupees were distributed among those in attendance

ABBOTABAD:

The first Thalassemia Care Centre of the Hazara division has been inaugurated at Ayub Teaching Hospital (ATH) Abbottabad.

Hospital Director and Dean Dr Umar Farooq inaugurated the centre. Speaking on the occasion, he said that in order to prevent the disease, every citizen constituting society should play their role, and that the media needed to create more awareness amongst people.

He further said that the number of children suffering from thalassemia is increasing rapidly, for which awareness and pre-marital screening are absolutely necessary. The Dean said that by registering the affected children at ATH, the supply of medicine to children with the cooperation of Pakistan Bait-ul-Mal and others would be made easier.

Dr Farooq also urged people to donate more blood and bring happiness to the lives of these children. More than 60 thalassemia victims and their parents were also present on the occasion.

Addressing the function, the Pathology Department Head Dr Naeema, said that the dream of setting up a centre at the government level for children suffering from thalassemia had come true.

Medicines worth millions of rupees were distributed among those in attendance, and food packages were also distributed among children.
