Two men seen torturing a woman for resisting a mugging attempt in a CCTV footage that went viral among the social media users in Karachi were arrested early on Sunday morning.
Shah Latif police claimed to have arrested two suspects in an encounter and recovered weapons from their possession.
The two suspects, one of them injured, were arrested after an alleged encounter took place near Sector 30 / B, Safi Chowk on the night between Saturday and Sunday.
According to SSP Malir's spokesperson, the injured suspect Waris son of Saeed Ahmed, 30, was shifted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for treatment while Afzal son of Iqbal was shifted to Shah Latif police station.
The police also recovered two 30 bore pistols along with bullets, a mobile phone, Rs2,000 in cash and a stolen motorcycle from the possession of the arrested suspects.
The suspects are involved in other serious crimes including snatching, theft, and robbery. Cases were registered against the arrested suspects and they were handed over to the investigation department.

Malir SSP Irfan Bahadur said that the arrested suspects had tortured a woman over offering resistance during a snatching incident in the Gulshan-e-Iqbal area a few days ago and managed to escape. Case crime No. 1295/2021 was registered in Gulshan-e-Iqbal police station.
The Shah Latif police identified the suspects, arrested in the alleged encounter which took place on the night between Saturday and Sunday, during interrogation with the help of CCTV footage.
The arrested suspects did not hesitate to torture and shoot civilians who resisted with extreme brutality, the SSP said. Information about further incidents is also being sought from both the suspects.
Letters have been sent to other police stations in the city regarding the arrest of the suspects. Weapons recovered from arrested suspects have been sent for forensic examination.
