Blood banks asked to register with govt
In an effort to ensure safe and controlled blood donation, transfusion and supply to the hospitals, the Balochistan government has declared registration of public and private blood banks mandatory across the province.
Under the Balochistan Safe Blood Transfusion Act 2004 the licence was mandatory for the blood banks to operate in the province, a Balochistan government official told APP, adding that still blood banks were operating without licence.
The government has directed individuals, hospitals, clinics, laboratories, group practices, firms, and others who own, manage or operate to ensure their operations as registered blood banks, he said, adding that process of issuing licences had been made easier to encourage registration.
The aim and object of the act was to ensure safety, protection and promotion of human life through comprehensive and quality Blood Transfusion Services in the Province.
The Authority would take all steps that may be required to ensure perpetual and sustained development of such services in the province as per the internationally acceptable standards.
The blood banks having licence were also directed to renew their licence till the due date, he said.
The authority would also take strict action against those who were not applying for the licence.
