The Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA)’s newly-elected President Ahsan Bhoon and Secretary Waseem Mumtaz on Thursday took charge of their office.

“[I] will never disappoint the bar, [I] would work as per the aspirations of the bars and the community. This is not just my victory but of the lawyers’ community,” he was quoted as saying in a statement.

The other day, the SCBA had issued the notification for the successful candidates.

“Bhoon after securing 1,546 votes was elected as the president and Mumtaz with 1,078 votes was elected as the secretary,” it read.

According to the official handout, Balochistan Vice President Muhammad Qasim Khan got 1,366 votes, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Vice President Saleemullah Khan got 1,196 votes, and Punjab Vice President Khawar Ikram Bhatti got 1,031 votes.

However, the election commissioner, while halting the results of Sindh vice president, had ordered recounting of votes in the Lahore polling station.

It added that Riyasat Ali Gondal with 1,241 votes was elected as additional secretary, Shehnaz Akhtar with 1,441 votes was elected as the finance secretary. Moreover, Abdul Malik Baloch got 1,379 votes, Syed Muhammad Tahir got 1,235 votes, and Abid Ali and Fida Bahadur from K-P got 1,436 votes and 1,335 votes respectively.
