Dengue ebbs but not out yet

94 new cases surface in Islamabad during last 24 hours

ISLAMABAD/RAWALPINDI:

The dengue virus has infected 94 citizens of Islamabad in the last 24 hours, taking the total tally to 3,737. To date, there have been 14 fatalities from the mosquito-borne disease in the federal capital.

Islamabad District Health Officer (DHO) Dr Zaeem Zia said 648 patients have been brought to Holy Family Hospital (HFH) in Rawalpindi. Along with it, 162 went to Benazir Bhutto Hospital (BBH), 44 to Rawalpindi District headquarters (DHQ), 379 to Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS), 113 to Polyclinic Hospital (PCH), 427 to the Federal General Hospital (FGH), and 69 to Capital Development Authority (CDA) hospital.

Zia added that over 1,700 infected residents of Islamabad visited private hospitals and laboratories across the twin cities. He said that 2,140 dengue cases emerged from rural areas of the federal capital, while 1,597 surfaced from urban areas.

In neighbouring Rawalpindi, 72 citizens contracted the virus during the last 24 hours, taking the infection toll to 2,240. 31 patients were brought to HFH, 16 to BBH, and 25 to DHQ during this time.

Currently, 207 infected patients are receiving treatment in all three allied hospitals of Rawalpindi, where 274 beds are available altogether. Six of the total infected are in critical condition.
