Prices of food items see sharp increase

Closure of roads in garrison city contributes to price hike

RAWALPINDI:

The prices of the daily-use commodities have skyrocketed following the closure of roads Rawalpindi and the rise in prices of petroleum products.

The rate of the chicken meat soared to Rs370 per kg while mutton is being sold at Rs1,300 per kg.

The rate of beef has gone up to Rs700 per kg. The sugar is available at Rs 110 per kg while flour is available at Rs 70 per kilogram.

Milk is being sold at Rs130 per litre while yoghurt is available at Rs140 per kg while flatbread is selling at Rs 10.

Onion is available is being sold at Rs 40 per kg, potato at Rs 45 per kg, tomato at up to Rs 90 per kg, carrot is selling at Rs70 per kg.

Further, apple is available for up to Rs 150 per kg, bananas are available at Rs 70 per dozen, pomegranate at Rs150 per kg and guava is selling up to Rs 80 per kg.

Different multinational companies have also increased the prices of their products including soaps, shampoos, powdered milk, pampers, etc amidst the closure of roads.

All 60 price magistrates were out of the scene amidst the unbridled price hike. The citizens said that the administration has left them in the lurch by placing them under virtual lockdown.
