Four killed in motorway car-trailer collision

Four people were killed in a collision between a car and trailer on the motorway near Panesra on Thursday.

Police said a car was travelling to Islamabad on Shorkot Motorway when the vehicle hit a trailer from behind. Consequently, Hassan Raza, Abdullah, Safdar, Omar Daraz were injured.

The motorway and district police provided medical assistance and shifted the injured to Allied Hospital, where all four died after struggling for life.

The police reached Allied Hospital and seized the bodies of the deceased. Reportedly, the police took the trailer into their custody and started searching for its driver who fled from the scene.

Road collision incidents of heavy vehicles on motorways are rampant across Punjab.

Meanwhile, a woman was crushed to death due to a motorcycle-trailer collision while her husband suffered serious injuries.

Police said Suleman along with his wife Haleema bibi, resident of Chak no 77-GB, was travelling on a motorcycle when their motorcycle collided with a trailer while overtaking a trailer near Satiana Road. As a result, Haleema died on the spot while her spouse suffered severe injuries.

On January 4, three members of a family were killed while five others suffered injuries when a van overturned while avoiding hitting a roadside tree on Kamalia road in Chichawatni.

Reportedly, the accident took place near Khan Da Chak, where the passenger van travelling from Faisalabad to Vehari overturned after its driver lost control over the steering wheel.

The injured were shifted to Chichawatni Tehsil Headquarters Hospital. All the victims reportedly belonged to the same family of Vehari district. Reportedly, the family was returning to Vehari from Faisalabad.

On May 27, 2020, six members of a family, including two women and two children, were killed and two minors were injured when a car hit a dumper truck on the motorway in Muridwala.

On June 15, at least six members of a family going to attend a Valima ceremony were killed when a van caught fire after an accident on the motorway near Gojra.

The deceased included two children and a woman, while 10 people, including six children were injured.

On September 20, 2020, at least five members of a family were killed on Gojra Motorway while travelling from Lahore to Layyah after their car collided with a tractor-trolley.

Consequently, a man, his two sons and a couple were killed, while an eight-year-old boy was seriously injured in the accident.
