Religious scholars urge TLP to record protest peacefully

Say they should not cause harm to public property and lives

ISLAMABAD:

Prominent religious scholars have asked the Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) to record their protest without causing harm to the lives and property of the citizens, saying that everyone has the right to protest peacefully within the ambit of the Constitution and law.

“The TLP should reconsider its approach to meet its demands,” Dr Abdul Rehman of the Islamic Center of the University of Peshawar said

“National property and the lives and property of citizens should not be harmed,” Rehman said. “Those who take such measures are playing a role in destroying the national economy.”

He said that it was wrong to prevent children from going to educational institutions and to stop patients from reaching the hospital.

He said that TLP should not challenge the writ of the state and speak within the law and Constitution.

He said that non-Muslims were protected in the Islamic state, adding that the message of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) was universal which “is to solve problems through dialogue and prevent resorting to violence”.

He said the role of the mediator in the Islamic state was to bring the protesters to the negotiating table.

Mufti Fazal Jamil said, “Muslims all over the world, including Pakistan, are expressing their anger over the issue of insulting cartoons in France.”

“The TLP should reconsider its approach of taking to the streets to deport the French ambassador,” Mufti Jamil said. “The country cannot afford these conditions.”
