DHA resident shoots dead ‘robber, injures two’
A citizen shot dead a robber and left two others injured in a shootout with a gang of robbers that had barged into his home in the upscale neighbourhood of Defence Housing Authority (DHA) on Monday.
Umair Shamim, a builder by profession fought a pitched battle against the seven intruders, killing one, injuring two and forcing the rest to run for their lives.
The security guards of Shamim caught four of the alleged robbers. Upon receiving information, acting South district SSP Sarfraz Nawaz, Clifton SP Tauheed-ur-Rehman, Defence DSP Muhammad Zahid and other police officers rushed to the spot. SSP Nawaz called in the Crime Scene Investigation Unit to the scene to gather evidence at the house located in DHA Phase II near PNS Shifa.
SSP Nawaz told The Express Tribune that seven robbers riding on 125 motorcycles, wearing caps and jackets resembling K-Electric staff came to Shamim's home.
The men told the security guards that they had come from K-Electric's office because a fire broke out in the bungalow due to a short circuit in the power lines and that they have come to check. At this the security guards opened the door the armed robbers entered into the bungalow and took the security guards hostage.

Meanwhile, homeowner Umair Shamim came out of a room and opened fire on the robbers with his licensed pistol. The robbers also returned fire. In the exchange of fire, one robber was killed on the spot while two others were injured.
The robbers tried to escape dragging the injured comrades with them, but Shamim's security gaurds caught and overpowered them. The suspects were subsequently arrested.
The body of the deceased dacoit was shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for legal formalities whereas the injured Shamim was shifted to PNS Shifa Hospital for medical treatment. The SSP said that the owner, who was also injured in firing by the robbers, worked as a builder and property developer.
