Dengue fever claims two more lives in Rawalpindi

Two dengue virus patients breathed their last on Saturday while 89 new infections were also reported. So far, the total number of dengue patients in Rawalpindi has reached 1,597.

Around 46 cases were reported in the Holy Family Hospital (HFH), 26 in Benazir Bhutto Hospital (BBH) and 17 in the District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital.

There are currently 224 dengue-infected patients under treatment in these three hospitals. The condition of seven patients under treatment at HFH is critical.

The district administration has intensified anti-dengue operations across the Rawalpindi district, and hospitals are making arrangements to increase the number of beds for infected patients.

In neighbouring Islamabad, 118 people got infected by the virus in the last 24 hours, after which the infection toll has reached 2,721.

Islamabad District Health Officer (DHO) Dr Zaeem Zia said 549 cases have been brought to Holy Family Hospital (HFH) in Rawalpindi.

Along with it, 138 infected patients went to Benazir Bhutto Hospital (BBH), 31 to Rawalpindi DHQ, 226 to Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS), 103 to Polyclinic Hospital (PCH), 308 to the Federal General Hospital (FGH), and 50 to the Capital Development Authority (CDA) hospital.

DHO said over 1,100 infected residents of Islamabad visited private hospitals and laboratories of the twin cities. He added 1,668 dengue cases emerged from rural areas of the federal capital, while 1,053 surfaced from urban areas.
