Police prepare for looming agitation drive
In wake of a protest accounted by a banned religious outfit whose leader was detained a few months back, police have geared up their resources to tackle any emerging law and order situation in the metropolis.
During the last mass agitation, a number of policemen had died and multiple were injured due to the clashes between police and the religious outfit.
The organisation after holding a mass rally throughout the city on the occasion of Eid Miladul Nabi had staged a sit-in outside its headquarters near Chowk Yateem Khana.
The initial dialogue between police and the organisation’s leadership failed on Thursday.
Within hours, CCPO Lahore Ghulam Mahmood Dogar gathers up his team at Qila Gujjar Singh police lines on Thursday.
The senior officers of all the wings of Lahore police including DIG Investigation Shariq Jamal, DIG Operations Sohail Chaudhary, SSPs of Investigation and Operations wings and other related officers attended the meeting.
Dogar on the occasion issued directions to Lahore police to remain highly alert in the wake of the present law and order situation.
He has said no one would be allowed to disrupt the peace of the city as Lahore police would ensure the safety and security of the citizens at every cost.
The CCPO reviewed the overall law and order situation of the provincial capital along with evaluating the performance of all the units of Lahore police.
He further directed the officers to improve the role of peace committees by increasing the representation of all the sects and religions so as to make their role more effective in the maintenance of peace and harmony in the society.
“Maintenance of law and order, prevention and detection of crime as well as citizen-centric smart policing are the top priorities of Lahore police,” he said.
