SHC seeks progress report on missing persons

Also summons additional director land in lease case

KARACHI:

The Sindh High Court, while expressing it's annoyance at the court police and JIT officials for failing to recover missing persons, sought a progress report.

A bench, headed by Justice Naimatullah, Phulpoto heard petitions seeking recovery of missing persons.

Missing citizen Abdul Rehman's mother and brothers of missing citizen Faheem Anda exclaimed in grief.

The brother of the missing citizen told the court that his mother died grieving his missing brother. Another citizen Saqib Bhatti was picked up along with Faheem.

The former had reached back home but his brother had been missing for the past six years. The court also sought a copy of the statement of Saqib Bhatti.

Justice Phulpoto remarked that the families of the missing persons were tired of being pushed around. The judge inquired whether the missing citizens left the country or they were being held in a detention centre.

The court sought a progress reports from police and other law enforcement agencies and adjourned the hearing until November 16.

Meanwhile, the SHC also summoned the additional director land on a petition pertaining to the lease of the land of German School in Orangi Town.

A single bench comprising Justice Zulfiqar Ahmad Khan heard the petition for lease of the land of German School Orangi Town. The

Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) submitted its reply regarding the lease.

Petitioner's counsel advocate Usman Farooq argued that the lease of welfare plots could not be issued to any individual.

A German school has long been run in Orangi Town with financial help from Norway.

Plaintiffs Farrukh Dar and others claim ownership of the land.

The defendants stated that the land lease had been issued to them, therefore, the court should allow them to raise construction.

The court summoned the additional director land on October 25 to clarify the situation.
