Health official says 121 more people contracted dengue virus

ISLAMABAD:

Another dengue patient died in the federal capital, bringing the total number of dengue deaths to six.

On Friday, 121 more people contracted dengue in Islamabad, after which the number of dengue patients increased to 1,649.

According to District Health Officer Dr Zaeem Zia, 440 patients were brought to Holy Family Hospital Rawalpindi during the current season, while 100 to Benazir Bhutto Hospital Rawalpindi, 25 to DHQ Hospital Rawalpindi, 70 to PIMS, 72 to Polyclinic and 229 to Federal General Hospital.

Director General (DG) Health Islamabad Dr Hassan Urooj said on Friday that the anti-dengue drive in Islamabad was running successfully, with all-out efforts being made to create awareness among the public about prevalence, treatment and prevention of the disease.

“The dengue virus can only be controlled with joint efforts of local community and public awareness through social media platforms,” he said while speaking in a national news programme. The DG further said that over 70 health workers were deputed in urban areas and over 100 health workers were working in rural areas of the capital, with health teams making door-to-door visits to sensitise citizens about the spread of dengue virus.
