Bhatt's portrayal of a brothel owner and matriarch from Kathiawad seems to be her most-talked-about project to date

Entertainment Desk October 15, 2021

There's something about the way Bollywood starlet Alia Bhatt owns the roles she takes up. Let it be Highway's Veera or Raazi's Sehmat or Gully Boy's Safeena, the 28-year-old star manages to mold herself in her character quite articulately. So it wasn't much of a surprise when her portrayal of Gangubai Kathiawadi, a brothel owner and matriarch from Kathiawad, seemed to have been her most-talked-about project to date.

Written and directed by ace filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali, the film is slated to release next year. Many are looking forward to the film as it is said to be Bhansali's biggest project ever. While the likes of Shah Rukh Khan among others have lauded Bhatt for her brilliance in the film, her boyfriend Ranbir Kapoor believes the Kapoor & Sons star can bag a National Award for Gangubai.

According to Filmfare, a source close to the actor shared Ranbir has seen snippets of the film and is in awe of his girlfriend. We can't wait for January to come sooner!

Gangubai Kathiawadi marks the first collaboration between Bhansali and Bhatt. It is touted to be the prior’s biggest project to date. Expected to be nothing like cine-goers have ever witnessed before, the Gangubai teaser celebrates the journey of a girl who becomes the voice for women everywhere.

Gangubai Kathiawadi also stars Vijay Raaz, Indira Tiwari, Seema Pahwa, and has Ajay Devgn and Emraan Hashmi play extended cameos. It also marks the Bollywood debut of television actor-dancer Shantanu Maheshwari.
