LSA 2021: Our favourite moments from the star-studded night
The much-awaited 20th edition of Lux Style Awards (LSAs) took place this past weekend in a spacious venue, with our favourite stars putting their best foot forward on the red carpet. The starry night saw the who's who of the Pakistani entertainment industry in attendance.
While there were some hiccups in the eight-hour-long show, there were – as always – a few memorable moments that definitely made the night a lot more fun and exciting, and are definitely worthy of a mention. Here are seven moments from LSA 2021 that made it to our list.
In the time of a pandemic
You've got to give it to the organisers – it is definitely a herculean task to hold an event with such grandeur in times of a pandemic. To ensure the compliance of the Covid-19 SOPs, the usual jam-packed event was cut down in terms of guests.
There were lesser celebrities and even fewer media personnel who were exclusively invited to the event. The seating arrangement was done rather spectacularly to maintain social distancing while LSA director Frieha Altaf reminded the audience to adhere to the 'new normal.' Kudos to the team for making sure the SOPs were followed to the T.
Remembering the legends
Another highlight of the night was the several tributes to the late and living legends of the showbiz industry. The artists remembered top musician Farhad Humayun who passed away earlier this year. Asim Azhar's heartfelt performance on the late Overload member's original song, Nimmi Nimmi, moved onlookers.
Ahmed Ali Butt's monologue for his friend was touching as well. The late legendary playwright Haseena Moin, was honoured posthumously with the Change Maker’s Award. Veteran singer Farida Khan was honoured with a Lifetime Achievement Award.
It took Butt a minute to turn from a host to a performer with a guitar in his hand. Like us, many knew he was prepping for an upcoming performance. You could peek and see the dancers gathering backstage.
An energetic Sheheryar Munawar hops onto the stage and Haye Dil booms on speakers. Since Maya Ali wasn't attending the awards, the audience's interest was piqued as to who will be filling her shoes. And boy, they weren't disappointed when Mahira Khan stepped in and nailed her part. To be honest, we absolutely didn't mind the retake.
Unapologetic Imran Ashraf
One of the highs of the shows was celebrated star Ashraf being his unapologetic self. From cheering for his peers to the fun banter with the hosts on stage, Ashraf stole the spotlight wherever he went. One of our favourite moments has to be his ear-piercing whistle when Adnan Samad Khan won the Emerging Talent for Ehd-e-Wafa. Another has to be when he wasn't given the winning card for Best TV writer. Truly awe-inspiring!
The iconic return of Resham
If you had been following the BTS of Lux Style Awards like us, you'd definitely be looking forward to Resham's return onstage. The veteran star, however, surprised fans when she walked the red carpet in a stunning figure-hugging backless emerald dress. With smoky eyes and ruffled hair, Resham turned heads with her sultry look.
But that wasn't it! She later changed into a gorgeous ivory and silver saree by Iqbal Hussain, coupled with a neat hairdo that truly contrasted her first ensemble. The actor effortlessly managed to nail both the looks. Resham also performed onstage with Ahsan Khan, leaving the audience mesmerised.
Infectious Ahmed Ali Butt
There's a reason why Butt is always the first choice to host any event. The actor, known for his wit and humour, thinks quick on his feet, which is an essential trait while conducting hosting duties. Like every year, this year Butt managed to hold his own too as he took turns to host several segments throughout the show. Be it lightening the mood or covering the few blunders, the actor did it so brilliantly, with a few laughs along the way too.
Gracefully yours, Mahira
This year, on Frieha's cue, when the LSAs stage began transforming as chandeliers were being brought out, you could see Mahira from the corner of your eye, backstage, rehearsing with her backup dancers. Clad in a heavily embellished emerald Nomi Ansari ensemble and chunky jewels, Mahira's poised execution of Moray Saiyyan left us spellbound. The actor managed to elegantly change from the quirky Haaye Dil avatar to the epitome of grace for this number.
