Wages of outsourced garbage collectors increased

Fines and deductions in neglected UCs may be imposed if agreement is violated, says SSWMB MD

KARACHI:

Officials of Chinese company, Changyi Kangjie, which has been outsourced door-to-door garbage collection under an agreement with the Sindh government were directed on Sunday to increase wages of staffers to encourage them.

At a meeting on Sunday, Sindh Solid Waste M a n a g e m e n t B o a r d (SSWMB) managing director told officials of the company to ensure door-to-door garbage collection in each union council of East and South districts as per the agreement.

The MD directed upgradation of staff, machinery and vehicles and said all arrangements would be reviewed next month. Fines and deductions in neglected UCs may be imposed if agreement is violated, said the SSWMB MD.

He further added that action would be taken against unauthorised persons collecting garbage from different households and dumping it haphazardly under Section 144 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC).
