Buzdar approves transition plan for LGs

Body of legal experts, ministers for law and local govt will implement strategy

Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar on Saturday accorded approval to the transition plan of the local governments.

This was decided in the 48th meeting of the provincial cabinet held at the CM's secretariat.

The meeting also decided to constitute a high-level cabinet committee comprising legal and constitutional experts including the ministers of law, local government and prosecution departments and other departments concerned to devise a strategy for the implementation on transition plan.

The committee will review every aspect of the transition plan and will submit its recommendations. The chief minister directed the provincial ministers, advisers and special assistants to participate in the celebrations of Ashra Shan-e-Rehmatul-lil-Alameen which will continue till Rabiul Awwal 12 in Punjab.

Earlier, Federal Minister for National Food Security Syed Fakhar Imam called on Buzdar at the CM's office and discussed matters related to food security and increasing crop production.

Buzdar said ensuring food security was the responsibility of the government and maintaining close liaison with the private sector in this regard was of utmost importance.

Buzdar said that the province has abundant wheat reserves and Punjab is playing a major role in ensuring Pakistan's food security.

He said the government has safeguarded the rights of the farmers and the growers of wheat, sugarcane and other crops have received full compensation for their produces.

“The use of modern technology is essential to increase agricultural production and farmers are being equipped with modern machinery besides ensuring the supply of quality fertiliser to them. Due to the government's farmers-friendly measures, agri-production has been substantially increased,” said Usman Buzdar.

The chief minister also directed the authorities concerned to launch an effective drive against dengue and said that all relevant departments should play their due role to control the spread of this disease.

He also the need for the implementation of the plan devised to curb dengue besides paying full attention to indoor and outdoor surveillance.

The chief minister directed the administrative officers to continue effective monitoring of anti-dengue measures.

“Dengue larva should be eradicated through effective surveillance of public and private buildings, tire shops and graveyards.”
