ISLAMABAD:

The sports goods industry has a huge potential and the government is considering organising ‘Sports Goods Expo’ for promoting trade and exports, said Federal Minister for Inter-Provincial Coordination Dr Fehmida Mirza.

In a meeting with a delegation of the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) on Friday, Mirza revealed that the government was in the process of forming a panel of athletes for sports promotion.

She stressed that the business community should extend financial support through their corporate social responsibility (CSR) funds so that they could participate in international events and bring more laurels to the country.

Agreeing with the proposal of the ICCI delegation for a fixed tax regime, she assured them that issues of the business community would be taken up with relevant authorities.

On the occasion, ICCI President Muhammad Shakeel Munir appreciated the government’s plan of organising the Sports Goods Expo, in collaboration with Islamabad and Sialkot Chambers of Commerce.

He said that exhibitions should also be organised internationally to introduce local sports goods in global markets.
