PepsiCo and Saaf Suthra Shehar collaborate to make recycling a reality in the twin cities

PepsiCo aims to create a circular economy for plastics in Pakistan under the “Recycle for Tomorrow” initiative

We all have a part to play in keeping our environment clean and green by recycling as much as possible. The recycling process can be done in many ways, but one brand has developed an easy method to make this matter less complicated.

Following a partnership initiated by PepsiCo Pakistan with the Islamabad administration, Saaf Suthra Shehar, and Haidri Beverages Limited, the citizens of Islamabad and Rawalpindi are recycling plastic waste through an innovative solution.

PepsiCo and Saaf Suthra Shehar joined hands to help citizens responsibly recycle plastic waste and play their part in keeping the environment clean and green. The program allows people to register and receive a free 19-liter refill of Aquafina in return for 10 plastic bottles of any shape, size, or brand. The bottles are collected by representatives of Saaf Suthra Shehar and then transported to a recycling facility.

Using this recycling solution is a convenient way for citizens to recycle empty water bottles and return them to the system for efficient reuse.

Last year, PepsiCo also introduced Pakistan’s first Reverse Vending Machine (RVM) in Jinnah Super, Islamabad which allowed customers to get a discount voucher for local eateries in return for plastic bottles. The technological innovation proved to be a success with citizens using it daily to recycle their plastic waste.

PepsiCo launched these programs with the aim of creating a circular economy for plastics in Pakistan under ‘Recycle for Tomorrow’ – the company’s plastic waste collection and recycling platform. ‘Recycle for Tomorrow’ campaign was initiated in January 2021, in order to change the way our society uses and disposes plastic waste. PepsiCo pledged to collect and recycle 4,750 tons of plastic waste within 2021. Within six months, the company had doubled its target to 10,250 tons.

These empowering initiatives are improving Pakistan’s recycling infrastructure as well as educating and empowering people to make better choices related to plastic waste reduction.
