PESHAWAR:

Peshawar Development Authority (PDA) has completed the construction work on a mega 216 kanal park on Ring Road.

Talking to The Express Tribune, an official of PDA said the parking area is the largest of its kind in Peshawar and a 1.5km long jogging track is also part of it. “The park has been constructed on the site of a dumping site and now it has been turned into a lush green beautiful park which is a gift for the people of Peshawar. They can come to exercise with kids and spend a pleasant evening. Exercising keeps one healthy and fit,” he said, adding that the need for a large park was felt for the past few years and now this dream has been turned into a reality.

The PDA official further said that more land was available adjacent to the park where they were planning to establish a zoo for the entertainment of locals. “For the past two decades, waste from Peshawar was dumped here as it was an active dumping site. It took the trucks almost 20,000 rounds of the site to remove the dump.

Then another 20,000 to bring sand to the site to level the ground,” he said, adding that it took the contractor four months to complete the construction work in the park. “There is a separate track for special persons and a 13 kanal play area for the children,” the PDA official said, adding that the jogging track is the most modern and a much needed addition because there used to be a jogging track in the Garrison Park which was closed down due to the terrorism threat.

Another official said parks are considered a must in any residential area in the western world because it keeps people mentally and physically fit and healthy. “Our children have no parks or stadiums where they can go and utilise their energy in healthy sports. Instead, you will find them doing one wheeling on Ring Road. You can’t blame them in the absence of all these facilities. I think now they will be able to gather here at least once a week and spend some quality time instead of doing highly dangerous things,” he said.
