Punjab records 619 fresh infections of Covid-19

As many as 11 persons succumb to deadly disease across province

The coronavirus pandemic has claimed 11 more lives in Punjab. Reportedly, 619 fresh infections were reported during the past 24 hours.

According to the data, shared by Punjab Primary and Secondary Healthcare Department (P&SHD) Secretary Imran Sikandar Baloch on Sunday, the death toll due to the pandemic reached 12,669 and the total number of virus cases in Punjab exceeded 432,810, while 403,800 patients had recovered from the virus so far.

As per the data provided by the P&SHD, currently 16,341 patients were under treatment in different hospitals across Punjab. The provincial health department conducted 19,540 tests for Covid-19 during the past 24 hours.

Reportedly, a total of seven persons succumbed to the coronavirus in the provincial capital over the past 24 hours.

The P&SHD secretary confirmed that in the past 24 hours, 270 virus cases were reported in Lahore, 57 in Rawalpindi, 26 in Faisalabad, 41 cases were reported in Multan, 29 in Sargodha, nine cases were reported in Kasur and 12 in Dera Ghazi Khan.

Moreover, nine Covid-19 cases were reported in Toba Tek Singh, four cases each were reported in Sialkot while six cases each were reported in Hafizabad and Okara.

Speaking about the positivity ratio across Punjab, the provincial health department secretary said the overall positivity rating was 3.2% in all major cities of the province.

He added that a rate of 4.9% was recorded in the provincial capital, 3.2% was recorded in Rawalpindi, 4.7% in Faisalabad, 3.1% in Multan and 1% in Gujranwala.

The secretary further said that the people must protect themselves from the contagion by taking special precautionary measures. He warned against attending unnecessary gatherings and crowded spaces.

He urged the people to immediately have themselves and their loved ones vaccinated against the virus.

The provincial health department had so far conducted 7,418,471 tests for Covid-19 in the province.
